Conventional Size Measurement

  • Height Measurement
    • Using a RulerPlace the glass bottle vertically on a horizontal surface, align the zero mark of the ruler with the bottom of the glass bottle, and then read the scale value where the ruler intersects with the top of the glass bottle, which is the height of the glass bottle. Ensure that the ruler is perpendicular to the horizontal surface during measurement to obtain accurate results.
    • Using CalipersFor measurements that require higher precision, calipers can be used. Place the glass bottle vertically, and use the two measuring jaws of the calipers to grip the bottom and top of the glass bottle, then read the value on the calipers, which is the height of the glass bottle. The precision of calipers can generally reach 0.01 millimeters, which can meet most measurement needs.
  • Diameter or Width Measurement
    • Using CalipersOpen the measuring jaws of the calipers to grip the widest part of the glass bottle, then read the value on the calipers, which is the diameter or width of the glass bottle. If the glass bottle is oval or irregularly shaped, the lengths of its long and short axes can be measured to describe its size.
    • Using a Soft Tape or StringFor larger glass bottles, it may not be convenient to use calipers for measurement; a soft tape or string can be used instead. Wrap the soft tape or string around the circumference of the glass bottle, mark the starting and ending points, and then use a ruler to measure the length between the marks on the soft tape or string, which is the circumference of the glass bottle. According to the circumference formula of a circle, \(C = \pi d\) (where C is the circumference and d is the diameter), the diameter of the glass bottle can be calculated.

Irregular Part Measurement

  • Neck Measurement
    • Using CalipersUse the measuring jaws of the calipers to grip the thinnest and thickest parts of the neck, measuring the minimum and maximum diameters of the neck respectively. For necks with threads or protrusions, ensure that the measuring jaws of the calipers are perpendicular to the axis of the neck during measurement to ensure the accuracy of the results.
    • Using Specialized Measuring ToolsIf more precise measurements of the neck size are needed, such as the inner diameter or taper of the neck, specialized neck measuring tools can be used, such as inner diameter gauges or neck taper gauges. These tools can be customized according to different neck sizes and shapes, providing more accurate measurement results.
  • Body Curve Measurement
    • Using a Profile GaugeA profile gauge is an instrument used to measure the contour shape of an object, which can accurately measure the curve shape and size of the glass bottle body. Place the glass bottle on the measuring platform of the profile gauge, and scan the body of the bottle with the probe of the profile gauge to obtain the contour curve and related size data of the bottle body.
    • Using a Coordinate Measuring MachineA coordinate measuring machine can accurately measure the three-dimensional spatial coordinates of an object. For glass bottle bodies with complex shapes, a coordinate measuring machine can be used for measurement. Insert the inner diameter gauge into the interior of the glass bottle, adjust the measuring jaws of the inner diameter gauge to fit snugly against the inner wall of the glass bottle, and then read the value on the inner diameter gauge, which is the internal diameter of the glass bottle.
    • Using an Ultrasonic Measuring InstrumentFor glass bottles that are inconvenient to directly insert measuring tools into, such as small-mouthed glass bottles or those with special internal structures, an ultrasonic measuring instrument can be used for internal size measurement. The ultrasonic measuring instrument emits and receives ultrasonic signals, calculating the internal size of the glass bottle based on the propagation time and speed of the ultrasonic waves in the glass.
  • Non-standard Shape Measurement
    • Three-dimensional ScanningFor glass bottles with very complex or non-standard shapes, three-dimensional scanning technology can be used. Use a three-dimensional scanner to perform a comprehensive scan of the glass bottle to obtain the three-dimensional model data of the bottle.
